Our system is broken
Life should be easier than this.
In the richest nation on earth, housing, health care, and child care are the bare minimum—not luxuries.
About
Meet Matt

Growing up
Born in Oakland, Matt grew up in Hayward just off Harder and Mission. His maternal grandmother helped raise him and his siblings when their mother fell ill and succumbed to cancer in 1992. His father remarried to a public school teacher and the family moved to the Tri-Valley where he graduated from San Ramon Valley High School in 2002.

Breaking into politics
Upon graduation from the University of Arizona in 2006, he moved back to the Tri-Valley to work on his first campaign. There he joined the Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund’s independent expenditure campaign to topple Republican Rep. Richard Pombo.

National experience
Matt moved across the country to serve at the Democratic National Committee under Gov. Howard Dean to elect Barack Obama. Later, he joined a clean energy and climate coalition as digital director before joining the firm New Partners and later the digital firm Middle Seat working with labor unions, environmental groups, and Democratic candidates.
He also established a national profile as a “frequent internet trickster” producing compelling digital creative on Republicans such as Mitt Romney during the 2012 campaign and others.

Starting a family and business
During the pandemic, Matt returned to California with his wife, Sophia, an Oakland native, and their son, Lucca, to be closer to family.
In June 2022, he started his own digital creative services shop. The firm, named for the street his grandparents lived on for over 65 years, serves Democratic candidates, labor unions, and progressive nonprofits. His son, Nico, was born later that year.
Why I'm Running
Fighting for the future we were promised
Our institutions are strained, our rights imperiled, our families burdened by costs no honest day’s work should fail to meet.
Matt is the only candidate on the June 2 primary ballot with national political experience. He was part of the biggest political fights of the last 15 years, fighting to raise the minimum wage, expand health care, ensure a clean environment, and for comprehensive immigration reform. He’s taken on corporate power working to stop the Keystone XL pipeline and block the Sinclair-Tribune merger.
Growing support
